Our schools are one of the most important foundations of our community. Families choose Irvine because they expect excellent schools: safe campuses, strong teachers, and opportunities that prepare their children for the future.
As a parent, business owner, longtime youth coach, and Irvine Public Works & Sustainability Commissioner, Ron has seen how much young people can accomplish when adults set high expectations, listen to them, support their families, and give them the tools to succeed.
His goal is not to bring more political division into our schools. It is to keep the focus where it belongs: on students, educational excellence, safety, transparency, responsible stewardship, and preparing young people for a rapidly changing world.
Ron Scolesdang is an Irvine parent, business owner, youth coach, community volunteer, and city commissioner. For more than two decades, he has worked with young people through martial arts and coaching, helping students develop discipline, confidence, resilience, accountability, and respect.
His background in business and entrepreneurship has required him to build teams, manage budgets, solve operational problems, and be accountable for results. His community service has reinforced a simple belief: good leadership starts with listening, showing up, and focusing on solutions.
As a parent with a child in Irvine schools, Ron has a direct stake in the district's success, and wants every family to feel that its voice matters.
Every major decision starts with one basic question: how does it help students learn, grow, stay safe, and prepare for their future?
IUSD’s reserves are shrinking while spending continues to rise, leaving the district with less room to handle unexpected challenges. Ron understands financial discipline from managing multiple successful businesses. He will push to maintain reserves above the state minimum, strengthen three-year financial planning, and tie multi-year budgets to a reserve-rebuilding plan. He will also work with the City of Irvine to pursue additional public funding opportunities.
IUSD must make sure its budget reflects the students actually attending our schools. Recent enrollment came in below projections, with another decline expected as some anticipated housing developments have been delayed. Ron will strengthen communication between Irvine’s planning department and IUSD so enrollment forecasts are based on real development and construction timelines. His local-government and business experience will help the district plan ahead instead of reacting after shortfalls occur.
Ron supports giving IUSD the tools to bring more charter-school options to our community. Families deserve strong public-school choices that meet different students’ needs. By creating more options within Irvine, we can give parents greater flexibility while strengthening our local education system. Ron believes more choice can help keep families invested in Irvine public schools.
“I want Irvine students to graduate with more than strong transcripts, ready to think critically, adapt to change, and pursue a future that fits their talents and ambitions.”Ron Scolesdang
